Mission Statement:  We, the members of the South Church family, are a people of God committed to living together in Christian love, creating, with God’s help, a caring fellowship where we can give support to and receive support from others.  Both as individuals and as a faith community, we seek to be disciples of Christ, imparting Christian principles through example and precept to young and old alike.  We seek to be a welcoming community of Christians willing to share both the cost and the joys of our discipleship.

In 1851, the members of the "Church of St. Johnsbury Plain" completed four years of prayerful discussion on the needs of the growing community by voting that "the interests of religion require a new church at the South end (of town); that a building be erected at the expense of the whole society to be owned and occupied by a colony from the mother church of not less than one-quarter nor more than one third of its membership, chosen by a committee of designation and to be organized at their own consent." Thus, on October 23, 1851, the colony of 66 members formally organized South Congregational Church.

In the Beginning . . Genesis

Weekly Bible study with Pastor Mark will continue through May 22.  Morning and evening sessions to allow everyone an opportunity to attend.  All are welcome and invited to join these Bible Study sessions

            • Morning Session: 10:00 - 11:00 am
            • Evening Session: 7:00 - 8:00 pm

We are exploring the book of Genesis.  This first book of the Bible contains the foundational stories of our faith and is the basis for many of our contemporary conversations from Creationism to rainbows.  A knowledge of the book of Genesis provides a background for understanding our faith.

Please call the church office 748-3315 with questions or if you will need child-care in order to participate.

5th Sunday Birthday Banquet

Happy Birthday graphicJanuary 29 - Family Pot-Luck

January 29, 2012 is a Fifth Sunday, a day that South Church gathers after worship for a potluck dinner.  This month we will be sharing a time of fun and laughter as we come together for the First Annual South Congregational Church Birthday Banquet.  We will have tables set for each month of the year and you will sit and share table fellowship with those born in the same month.  Each birthday group will decorate their table in a way that represents that month.  This will be accomplished by people bringing decorations and adorning their table using everyone’s contributions.  I know, it sounds chaotic and crazy – that’s the whole idea!  There will be birthday cake with lots of candles and surprises!

Put the date on your calendar, bring your friends and a favorite dish to share, and make plans to join us for this fun event.
